INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR
Bowtech, Hoyt, Darton
and other bows with rounded risers
CAUTION!!!!!!
FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS ON THIS PAGE!

INSTALLATION OF THE “DEATH GRIP” IS VERY EASY. HOWEVER, YOU MUST READ AND FOLLOW THE
DIRECTIONS. IF YOU FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS, THE BOND WILL BE UNBELIEVABLY STRONG. THE “DEATH
GRIP” WILL NEVER COME OFF, UNLESS YOU WANT IT TO.

INSTALLING THE BEARING ASSEMBLY ONTO THE BOW
1.
First of all, find a place that you can set and leave your bow so that the face of the grip seat
will remain level for    24 hrs after applying the bearing assembly. (FIG-13) This is done to
allow the bond to take place properly. Do not touch the bow for 24 hrs after you have installed
the bearing assembly.
2.
Remove the old grip presently on the bow. The factory installed grip may require you to
remove one or two screws. Other grips may be glued on. Depending on the adhesive the
manufacturer of the bow uses, this step will range from very easy, to the hardest part of the
installation. Use a hair dryer to heat the grips that are glued on. This will weaken the bond of
the glue and make it easier to remove the old grip.
3.
Remove the paint and glue that is necessary to mount the bearing assembly.  Also remove the
paint from the beveled sides of the grip seat. You can see how much paint and glue to remove
by setting the bearing assembly on the grip seat and lining it up with the plastic spacer
included with your kit. (Fig.-1). Mark the area that the paint must be removed from. (Fig-2)  A
single sided razor blade works well for this task. Drag the blade over the paint and shave the
paint and glue off. Do not push the blade, as it will dig into the aluminum riser. (Fig-3)  Remove
as much of the old glue as possible. Excess glue may interfere with bearing movement.  The
adhesive that will be used to adhere the bearing assembly to the grip seat will only bond

metal to metal.
It is better to take off to much paint rather than not enough.
4.
It may be necessary to use a 320 grit emery paper to remove the last bit of paint from the face
of the grip seat. (FIG-4) You may have to remove some glue on the sides of the grip seat left
over from the old grip.  Check the fit of the bearing assembly on the grip seat. Make sure the
bearing assembly will slip onto the grip seat freely and completely.the bearing assembly
5.
Clean the grip seat where the paint was removed with water and a paper towel. (Fig-6) Clean
the area of the bearing assembly that will be adhered to the grip seat with water and a paper
towel. (Fig-7) Do not use any soap or chemical cleaners. Dry the bearing assembly and grip
seat with a paper towel.
6.
Apply the activator with the cotton swab onto the space where the paint was removed from the
grip seat. (Fig-8) The activator must be applied in a very thin film over the entire bare metal
surface. If you hold the bow up and the activator runs into a puddle at the bottom of the grip
seat you have too much activator applied. There is more than enough activator in your kit.
7.
Unscrew the cap from the syringe and apply a bead of adhesive 1/8 of an inch (3 mm) thick
down the center of the area of the bearing assembly that will be adhered to the grip seat.(Fig-
9)  Do not smear or apply  the bonding agent any place else. All you want is the 1/8"(3mm)
bead down the center of the bearing assembly. (Fig-10)When you place the bearing assembly
onto the grip seat it will roll the bonding agent over the activator and the chemical bond will
take place.
8.
Set the bearing assembly in place on the grip seat of the bow using the provided line up tool to
place the bearing assembly in the correct position on the grip seat. (Fig-11)  Press the bearing
assembly onto the grip seat. One firm press is all that is needed. (Fig-12) Pressing the bearing
assembly onto the grip seat will cause adhesive to squeeze out the sides and the ends of the
bearing assembly. This is normal. Do not worry about the excess adhesive that was squeezed
out the ends or the sides at this time. Recheck the position of the bearing assembly with
rectangle spacer. (Fig-11)
Wait four minutes. Remove all of the adhesive that is under
the bearings with a paper towel.
Set or hang the bow so that the grip seat and bearing
assembly are at a level or near level position. (Fig-13)
9.
Do not touch the bow for 24 hours after the installation is complete. An initial bonding will take
place in the first 2 hours. A complete bonding will take place after 24 HRS.  Do not try to install
the grip on the bearing assembly for 24 HRS!!!!!!

INSTALLING THE GRIP
1.
After the 24 hr. Curing time you may now remove the excess adhesive that has leaked out the
sides of the bearing assembly. The adhesive may still be in a thick liquid form at this point. It is
not necessary to remove all the adhesive on the sides of the bearing assembly.
2.
It is important to snap the bottom of the grip onto the bearing assembly first in order to get the
correct alignment to the traverse bearing and the traverse bearing slot machined into the grip
(Fig-14). Line up the slot that is running left and right inside the grip with the bearing mounted
on top of the bearing assembly.  Apply firm pressure on the very bottom of the grip. You will
feel and hear it snap into place.

3.
Apply forward pressure to the top of the grip until you hear and feel the top of the grip snap on.
Do not remove the grip from the bearing assembly once it has been snapped on. Repeated
removal and installation of the grip will weaken the bearing clips.
             Removal of bearing assembly

1-Upply upward pressure to the rear of the grip. The grip will pop off the bearing
assembly.

2- Remove the fifth bearing from the top of the bearing assembly with a 5/32 Allen wrench.

3- Install a 3/4 inch 10x24 allen screw back into the same hole.

4- Using a back and forth motion thread the screw back into the same hole until the bearing
assembly is pushed off the riser. You may hear a crack. That is normal. The sound is the
adhesive cracking.

5- Remove all residue of adhesive from riser and bearing assembly before reinstalling
bearing assembly.
